Electronic and hip hop duo LMFAO consists of two members, Redfoo and SkyBlu. The two originate from Los Angeles and started out as DJs in the city’s club scene, along with other contemporary DJs and producers such as Steve Aoki and DJ AM. The artist responsible for helping them get signed to Interscope Records was none other than Black Eyed Peas’ will.i.am, who had been friends with Redfoo ever since childhood and recognized the duo’s potential.
A moderately successful debut album followed with 3 Top-100 singles released off it. In 2010, LMFAO were featured on David Guetta’s worldwide hit, Gettin’ Over You. However, it was only by 2011 that the group achieved worldwide success on their own with Party Rock Anthem, a number one in over 10 countries.
The hit features British singer Lauren Bennett and American producer GoonRock. In the song’s video, the “Everyday I’m shuffling” chorus is accompanied by the band members as well as other dancers performing the Melbourne Shuffle, originally a 1980s dance style. The video is a parody of the cult horror movie 28 Days Later. A year after its release, Party Rock Anthem won the 2012 MTV Movie Award for Best Music for its usage in the comedy 21 Jump Street.
Party Rock Anthem spent 6 consecutive weeks at number one in Billboard Top 100 before being dethroned by Katy Perry’s Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F).
